Theatre collective from Ghent who makes performances with everyone who feels like playing something or someone, mostly outside in the city.
Our main message is that theatre is a temporary demarcation where people meet outside their familiar conventions.
Our goal is to open up a space in which strangers can enter into dialogue and where the pleasure of that encounter takes centerstage without needing to be useful, efficient or mandatory.
We try something radical as an independent practice without subsidy.
A sacred space for culture lovers.
We live in the city.
Not in nature.
We choose this (at least).
We choose not to retreat into nature.
Out of a need not to view "retreating" as the only option left.
We try to rebuild something.
City life,
A secular life.
Where you respect the diversity.
That's why it is preferable to a religious society.
We are convinced that religion should not influence the way a city is built.
We do not pit one thing against another.
Because when you say no, there is no room left.
Then you only have closure.
We are witnessing a rapid exodus from churches, de-baptisms, and monasteries for sale.
On a larger scale, we are witnessing the collapse of the structural system of meaning.
On an existential level, an increase in depression, anxiety, and psychoses.
Due to a total exodus.
A void.
Where every person is now expected to fill this in for themselves.
What are you doing here?
Take your pick!
But you have to figure it out for yourself...
And if you can’t do that on your own today, then you turn to social services.
And if you can afford it.
And if you dare to.
And if you know the way.
Or you stick with the Scouts.
Or you’re lucky enough to have a close-knit family that gets together on Sunday evenings.
Or a close-knit group of friends who go out to a bar together every Friday.
Or you find joy in a monthly team-building event that HR lets you organize.
Or a group trip to Indonesia because traveling alone is just too expensive.
But what do you do about Tinder depression?
Can you just strike up a conversation with someone at a bar?
Did you make a new friend last month?
Do you still find new words that can surprise you?
Do you have a place where time and space take centerstage?
Where connection is the most important thing?
Do you still expect someone to give you what you didn’t know you needed?
Nothing can change intentionally.
Only organically.
We embrace that organic process.
By simply trying.
We don’t hope, because hoping is the same as doing nothing.
What is your favorite place?
